¡¡He cosido un impermeable!!
He pasado mucho para sacar este proyecto adelante porque trabajar con laminados requiere gran inventiva cuando no se tienen las herramientas adecuadas pero ¡lo conseguí!.
La razón para coser un impermeable en verano fue puramente práctica. Nunca empiezo a tiempo lo que tengo que coser por necesidad, siempre ando corriendo con los vestidos de navidad,etc, y ni hablar de los bañadores, que voy ya por el TERCER año que se me queda la lycra comprada y sin estrenar. Igual con los impermeables, así que cuando Modes4U contactó conmigo para daros a conocer su tienda, me fui directamente a uno de mis grandes proyectos olvidados año tras año.

As you could imagine from my previous post, sewing my first raincoat has been quite a challenge. The end result is worth all the effort though, and I´m better equipped now to tackle a second raincoat sooner rather than later.
Lo que más me gustó de Modes4U fue ver tantos plastificados a un solo click. Generalmente tengo que buscar en varias tiendas online hasta dar con la tela que me guste pero es que tienen taaaaantos laminados y todos taaaaaan apetecibles. Mirad AQUÍ y decidme si no hay al menos tres o cuatro que os vuelvan locas. Yo elegí esta tela (ahora agotada!) para hacer una versión de una chaqueta que le hice a Luis cuando era bebé, la chaqueta dinosaurio, y que me encantaba. Esta vez en talla 8 para que la usen los tres, porque vaya si me ha costado terminar este proyecto...Todavía le faltan los snaps de las tapetas pero me he dado un descanso de tanta tela que se pega. Al fin y al cabo queda mucho para la vuelta al cole.

Modes4U offered me any fabric for a project, and when I saw their vast selection of laminates I knew this was my big opportunity. My little boy outgrew his favourite jacket, the dino jacket here, a long time ago, and I thought it would be great to make a version in a bigger size.

El patrón es el School Days Jacket de Oliver and S. Un abrigo laborioso con muchas piezas que cortar, muchos pespuntes y no apto para coser con prisas. La tarea se me complicó con la tela plastificada pero estoy doblemente orgullosa de todo lo que he aprendido con este proyecto. Todo lo que iba experimentando y aprendiendo lo he recogido en forma de tutorial para que cosais sin miedo con plastificados, pero no lo tengo todavía terminado (qué raro). Mi impermeable, y está mal que yo lo diga pero lo digo, ha quedado muy resultón. La parte más difícil fueron los pespuntes vistos pero quedaron muy decentes gracias al truco de pegarle cinta adhesiva a la base del prensatelas que leí en The sewing Rabbit.

The pattern is the School Days Jacket by Oliver and S. There are 15 pattern pieces to cut and almost twice as much to put together which made it a long and laborious project. I had to slow down and sew it in batches, changing the needle, the foot and using new techniques each time. Some of them worked better than others, but the one that surprised me most was this genious invention I read in the sewing rabbit: scotch tape the underside of the machine foot!!. I could make a decent topstitching that wasn´t an eyesore

Yo me voy a atrever con más laminados porque mi hija ya ha elegido estos búhos, y yo necesito otro para mi con este estampado por ejemplo. O estas flores. Realmente me cuesta elegir entre todo lo que hay en Modes4U!!! Pero esta vez escogeré un patrón más sencillo tipo capa o chaqueta simple para no gastar mucho en tela y minimizar las probabilidades de error.
Bueno ¿qué? ¿Alguien se anima a coser impermeables antes de que lleguen las lluvias? Un cose conmigo quizás?

Sadly this print is out of stock now but my daughter has picked this owl one that would make an irresistible raincoat or cape. I would also wouldn´t mind one for me with this print or these flowers, but this time it´d be a simpler pattern much quicker to sew.
